Imperial County Teacher of the Year is Jason Sanchez

EL CENTRO — Junior high science teacher from the El Centro Elementary School District, Jason Sanchez, has been selected as the Imperial County Teacher of the Year, according to an Imperial County Office of Education press release.

Having started his teaching career in Winterhaven at San Pasqual Valley Unified School District more than 20 years ago, Sanchez has taught a variety of subjects including English language arts, math, and science. He is now an eighth-grade science teacher at Kennedy Middle School in the El Centro Elementary School District.
“Mr. Sanchez is an excellent example of the quality of teachers we have in Imperial County,” states Dr. Todd Finnell, county superintendent of schools, in the press release. “He has a wonderful ability to connect with students and get them excited about learning. Whether in the science classroom or on the field as a coach, Mr. Sanchez is a great educator and our nominee for California’s Teacher of the Year.”

Based on Imperial County’s K-12 student enrollment of 37,000, the Imperial County Office of Education can nominate one teacher to the California Department of Education to be considered for the upcoming 2024 California Teacher of the Year Program. If selected, Sanchez would be one of five statewide teachers of the year.
In Imperial County, a committee of local educational leaders from local school districts and ICOE is tasked with recommending a single nominee to represent the outstanding work of Imperial County teachers from the nominations received from school districts county-wide.
